We experienced this situation in about half of the little league teams that my son participated in. Difficult problem to solve since the teams need volunteer coaches. I think the effect on some kids is actually more severe than described. Players who lack much parental support often get far less instruction or play time. Consequently, their development is slower and they tend to fall behind and eventually drop out. With equal instruction from the beginning, some of those kids may have developed into the best players.
